'How to talk to your kids about Sex' is not the type of content writing we have tackled before here at Ruby Cube Media but when we were approached by thetalk.ie we just couldn't say no to the challenge.
For the past 4 years, Sarah Sproule, an Occupational Therapist with a Masters in Sexuality Studies has been delivering research and health-based programmes helping parents to positively connect with their children about Sexuality and Consent issues. Each week she records a short vlog (about 6 minutes) whilst 'sitting in a car' where she answers questions that have been put to her at one of her many talks or sent to her by a parent.
Once a week Ruby Cube Media writes an email teeing up the subject matter of the forthcoming 'sitting in a car' vlog which is sent out to her online members. A wide range of subjects are covered:
Sarah's open and honest approach to what in Ireland has traditionally been a 'taboo' subject is extremely refreshing, especially in the context of current debate on whether the existing RSE programme (Relationships and Sexuality Education) is fit for purpose.
The challenge as a content writer on this is to set up the scenario of the forthcoming vlog and to set the right tone and language. Informative but not preachy. Lighthearted but not trivialising and definitely not shying away from awkward topics.
We also wanted to elicit an action from the reader to engage with the further resources offered by the company - by directing them to the website, facebook page or to carry on a chat by email.
According to thetalk.ie these weekly emails have streamlined the process of content marketing for them. Sarah can stay in her zone of genius (video and the spoken word) and use her limited time to generate the original content.
According to Sarah, Ruby Cube Media "takes all the pain out of trying to write the emails necessary to put the vlog in front of parents who need support - to turn awkward conversations into opportunities and to build connection with their kids.
"These emails help nurture the community of parents we have gathered together. This community is warmed up and ready to buy thetalk.ie’s next online family sexuality education product."
Your content requirements may not be quite as delicate as this subject matter but the bottom line is, good, targeted content will help grow your business, strengthen client loyalty and reinforce your brand.
